A 1813 SKETCH OF HAZARIBAGH

 by

The attached pencil sketch of old Hazaribagh was made by an army man one Robert Smith in November 1813; nearly two hundred years ago!

The Seotagarha , the Bawanwey, the Silwar and the Kesura paharis are visible. What is surprising are two beautiful  mosque like architectures  which are now  vanished with time. There are few more lines scribbled at the right bottom which have become illegible today, I could decipher only the 'Gaya Road' in it.  Can you read the rest? These may comprise the names of the buildings.

The original sketch is kind of faded, therefore I have adjusted the brightness, contrast and the midtone to make the illustration sort of 'come out' from its obscurity.

Where could this place be today where the sketch was made by Mr. Robert Smith in 1813 is difficult to guess  but I presume this might be the area around the St. Columbus' College, or the Cantonment Area behind Mount Carmel School. I may be wrong. But if you make a guess please post a comment.

Enjoy the sketch by 'clicking' on the drawing and, get drowned in history......

  5. Ismein shayad Kanhari, Kesura aur Sitagadha pahadiyan bhi dikh rahi hain. Seetagadha ya Amritnagar ke paas ki tasveer hai kya ? Main bhi kuch jagahon ke naam bhulne laga hun !!!
